About Jet2

Tickets / About the airline

Jet2 is a British low-cost airline founded in 2003, headquartered at Leeds Bradford Airport in the United Kingdom. Known for leisure travel, Jet2 operates a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft and specializes in holiday routes to Mediterranean destinations, the Canary Islands, and other summer sun hotspots across Europe and North Africa. The airline has built a strong reputation for family-friendly travel, with a focus on beach holidays and cultural destinations rather than business routes.

Operating from multiple UK bases including Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow, Jet2 serves over 60 destinations across Europe and beyond. The airline offers a mid-range positioning within the low-cost sector—while offering cheaper fares than traditional full-service carriers, it provides more amenities and flexibility than ultra-budget competitors. Popular routes include flights to Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, and Italy, with seasonal expansion to destinations like Cyprus and Morocco.

Check-in

Jet2 offers multiple check-in options to suit different travel styles. Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and is available through the Jet2 website or mobile app, allowing passengers to select their boarding pass digitally. Mobile boarding passes can be saved to a smartphone, eliminating the need to print. For those preferring airport check-in, bag drop and check-in desks are available at the airport, though arriving 3 hours before departure (or 2 hours for EU flights) is recommended to avoid queues during peak times.

Boarding passes are issued as e-tickets by default; no physical document is required if you've checked in online. The airline boards by zone or seat number, and passengers are called to the gate in stages. If checking luggage, you'll need to drop bags at the appropriate desk regardless of online check-in completion.

Seats

Jet2 operates a standard seat selection model where certain seats come with additional charges. Window and aisle seats in preferred rows are available for a fee, while standard seats can often be allocated free at check-in. Families traveling with children under 16 may be seated together automatically at no extra charge, a policy designed to support family holidays. Groups can request block seating, and advance seat selection is available during booking or shortly after through the Jet2 website.

Extra legroom and preferred seating options are available for purchase, ideal for taller passengers or those seeking additional comfort on longer routes. Passengers traveling with infant car seats or bassinets should arrange seating in advance to ensure compatibility with the aircraft's layout.

Fares & baggage

Jet2 offers tiered fare options including Basic, Inclusive, and Flex fares. Basic fares include a carry-on bag only; checked baggage must be purchased separately. Inclusive fares typically allow one checked bag of up to 22 kg (approximately 49 lbs), making it suitable for week-long holidays. Flex fares provide greater change flexibility and often include additional perks. All fares allow one small personal item (handbag, laptop bag) in addition to carry-on luggage.

Checked baggage is charged per bag, with standard allowances starting at 22 kg for the first bag. Additional bags and overweight items incur extra fees. Passengers are advised to review their specific fare type during booking, as baggage entitlements vary. Hand luggage must not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm to fit overhead bins, and the airline is fairly strict about size at the gate during peak periods.
